Abstract

The chromosome complement of Malabari goat and its crosses with Saanen and Alpine revealed a diploid number of 60. The karyotype comprised of 29 pairs of acrocentric autosomes and one pair of sex chromosomes. The X chromosome was the longest and acrocentric whereas the Y chromosome was the smallest and the only metacentric in the goat chromosome complement. Analysis of the relative lengths the X chromosome and the Y chromosome revealed significutt differences between breeds.
