P. D. Juyal and B. B. Bhatia

Abstract

A total of 153 buffalo oesophagi were screened for the presence of Sarcocystis fusiformis. cysts of which, 68 were found positive. The degree of intensity was light (+) in 18, moderate (++) in 22 and heavy (+ ++) in 28 oesophagi respectively. Six cats fed oesophagi containing approximately 1000 sarcocysts showed illness, Toss of appetite and diarrhoea at the initial stages and returned to normal at the late phase. Infected oesophagi are the likely source of Sarcocystis fusiformis infection to cats. These discarded offais are easily accessible to domestic cats.
